Dr Avinash Dal was trained at the prestigious SREE CHITRA TIRUNAL INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, Thiruvanananthapuram, Kerala India and after wroking some time with the alma mater as a faculty, he migrated northwards and settled in the historic city of Hyderabad in Telangana India. He is presently working as Chief of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Medicover Hospital, Begumpet,   Hyderabad.

HIGHLIGHTS IN RECENT PRACTICE

1. 99.5% survival

2. 84 year old mitral valve replacement went home successfully

3. EVAR with debranching operation including surgery in cathlab: doing well

4. submitral aneurysm repair discharged on fifth day

5. VATS mediastinal node dissection. Most of the thoracic work is video assisted.

6. Minimal access cardiac surgery program has started

7. tracheal surgery done for traumatic rupture of trachea and esophagus: patient is doing well

8. Bronchoplastic surgery (3 cases) for leiomyoma of main bronchus. VATS bronchoplastic repair is done successfully for RML preserving the right lower lobe.

9. Subxiphoid approach for bilateral lung resections done> Right middle lobe and left lingular lobe excised from the incision using VATS technique

RECENT UPDATES

1. Tirone David II operation saves valve replacement and none of the patients had any postoperative bleeding. Long term results in our patients are encouraging.(We had two cases this month itself)

2.Bronchoplastic resection of adenoid carcinoma of bronchus performed with total lung expansion. The patient will be subjected to adjuvant radiotherapy even though margins and lymph nodes are free from tumour.

3.endovascular repair of aneurysm with traumatic rupture of aorta succesfully

4. Rare combination of Cor triatriatum with Partial AV canal defect and severe MR along with unroofed LSVC, all repaired successfully at Continental Hospital, Gachibowli Hyderabad, India

5. successful CABG (on bypass) with LMCA and RCA disease with EF <20%

6. First TAVI for aortic valve stenosis done at Continental Hospital, Hyderabad

7. complete aortic debranching of abdominal aorta with endovascular stent graft placement (EVAR)

8. completed one year at Virinchi Hospitals 28 Feb 2018.  Around 65% practice was cardiac surgery and 35% was shared by Thoracic and Vascular surgery. Only 1 mortality making survival >99.5%

9. Tracheal repair done for tracheal injury with complete transaction  of Trachea and Esophagus. The esophageal part was managed by Dr Gabriel Sukumar, expert GE surgeona and end to end anastomosis of trachea done using suprahyoid and mediastinal mobilisation of trachea.

10. Trans-sternal transpericardial bronchopleural fistula closure done with a patient suffering for the last dozen years

11. Trans-aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for an elderly lady with aortic stenosis
